Planting Details
This is a reforestation project where thousands of trees were planted by the forester across several hectares.
It is a combination of species that replaces a spruce monoculture destroyed by the bark beetle.
PlantC supports 2,000 trees. The support was distributed among four species by our partner, the Royal Forestry Society of Belgium, as follows: 880 Douglas firs, 784 larches, 196 Nordmann firs, and 140 sessile oaks.
- Planting period: Spring 2021
- The survival rate was checked in autumn 2021.
- 286.9 tonnes of CO2 sequestered over 30 years.
This project is carried out in partnership with the Royal Forestry Society of Belgium.
Visit to the plot in 2022
On September 20, 2022, we received a recent update on the plantation.
On site, located in a Natura 2000 zone, the forester reviews the important elements of the context: how the bark beetle and bad weather weakened the trees, reasons why he was forced to proceed with the felling and then the reforestation of the plot.
We walk through the plot and the technical elements are presented: The plantation was carried out in oblique lines, with a spacing of 3 meters between the lines. Zones called “firebreaks” have been established: there are therefore between 9 and 12 meters between the larches and the Douglas firs. Nordmann firs are located in the firebreak strip.

Natural regeneration is also practiced. For example, when there are oaks, the forester decides to keep them.
The forest is therefore an ecosystem, let’s not forget! Trees, animals, and fungi coexist!
The larch allows for the development of flora beneath its canopy, and the oak, which is not very common, has high biological potential. Finally, the powerful root system of Nordmann firs, larches, and sessile oaks will have a beneficial effect on the soil.

Planting trees in Belgium!
In conclusion, the plantation is progressing well! The exchange with the forester is enriching. Beyond the technical aspect, we also address the need to teach and transmit his passion for the forest. In doing so, the forester hopes to perpetuate good forest management from generation to generation.
Planting a tree in Belgium is a meaningful act!
As with every visit, the PlantC team confirms the relevance of our actions for the reforestation of the Belgian forest.
We leave confident and proud to have been able to support this project.

Forest immersion in 2023
It was in the presence of the representatives of the “Les Ardentes” Festival that we toured the forest plot in April 2023. In the presence of the Royal Forestry Society of Belgium and the forester, we were able to raise awareness and provide information on various aspects: how carbon sequestration occurs in forests, the concept of mosaic forests, and evolving silvicultural management. Finally, the issue of damage caused by the bark beetle was also addressed. It should be noted that for this project, the forester planted over 4,000 trees. PlantC contributed 2,000 trees. It is important to remember that, of course, the project is conceived and planted today, but it is designed for future generations.
