The Chiny (Thirifays) Project in Detail

  • 500 Wild Cherries (Prunus avium)

  • The survival rate confirmed in autumn 2022.
  • 95.15 tonnes of CO2 sequestered over 30 years.

Project carried out in partnership with the Royal Forestry Society of Belgium.

Visit to the Thirifays Plot in 2023

Visit of May 26, 2023! We learned through discussions with the forester that this plot, enclosed within agricultural land, had been fallow for many years and gradually became a dumping ground. It underwent a cleanup campaign before being replanted. The owner took care to leave beautiful hedges along the site’s edge that established themselves naturally, ensuring a smooth transition between the future forest plot and the surrounding pastures. True feeding grounds, refuges, and nesting sites for birds and small wildlife.

The establishment is very good and the plants are well protected. This did not prevent a deer from feeding on some fresh shoots a few days after our visit! Not enough to threaten the establishment of the stand, initially: to be continued.
