Grupont Reforestation in Detail

This is a reforestation project where PlantC is supporting 2,000 trees. Three species have been planted.

  • Hybrid Larch: 667
  • Sessile Oak: 666
  • Douglas Fir: 667

Composition of hardwoods and conifers for the reforestation of approximately 1.73 hectares. As a reminder, the reforestation is due to the presence of bark beetles.

Using a diversity of species is beneficial for avifauna (flowers, fruits, and acorns, food sources for birds, insects, and small mammals, for example). When leaves fall, humus is generated, and root systems are complementary. This will impact the recycling of deep elements, the biological activity of the soil, the fixation and structuring of the soil.

Plot Location – Grupont
  • Planting period: February 2023.
  • Survival Rate Check: >80%
  • 260.63 tons of CO2 sequestered over 30 years.

Project conducted in partnership with the Royal Forestry Society of Belgium.

Visit to the Grupont Plot in 2024

Wow! Indeed, the plantation is quite impressive in this location.

Why? Two reasons:

  1. The plants are perfectly suited to the site. This means that the soil of the plot is perfectly suited to the planted species, which ensures good growth of our plants.
  2. The view is simply breathtaking from the plantation. Look!

The recovery rate is quite good on the plot, reaching 90%. Which is excellent!

It should also be noted that the owners, having the time to look after their plot, pay particular attention to the young plants and remove competing vegetation (weeds, brambles, etc.) when it hinders growth, which ensures their longevity.

Using beeches to hold log piles, practical!

Stay tuned for more forest visits!
