In total, the planting of 6,250 trees was supported
Here in Rachecourt, 7 species are planted across 4 hectares:
- Red Oak,
- Sessile Oak,
- Pedunculate Oak,
- Beech,
- Alder,
- Chestnut and
- Wild Cherry.
In total, PlantC has supported the planting of 6,250 trees.

It is therefore a diversification project: These species will replace a spruce monoculture destroyed by the bark beetle. This will guarantee and improve the services provided locally by the forest (biodiversity, water and soil quality).
- Planting period: Autumn 2020
- The recovery rate was checked in autumn 2021.
- This plot is “PEFC” certified, which guarantees a high level of sustainability.
- 414 tons of CO2 sequestered for 30 years.
This project is carried out in partnership with the Royal Forestry Society of Belgium.
Visit to the plot in 2022
In June 2022, PlantC once again met with the foresters on the plot itself! Recent updates are published below.

The plantation is thriving. It is with great enthusiasm that we explore the immense plot in the presence of Hector and Céline, the plot managers. They remind us of the plot’s history and the various challenges they faced: the prohibition of access to the plot during the African swine fever crisis, the devastation caused by the bark beetle afterwards, and, of course, the importance of reforesting the plot, this time following a diversification scheme.
As true enthusiasts, Hector explains that it was difficult for him not to be able to access his plot during the African swine fever crisis. Indeed, he walks the plot several hours a day and several days a week! We walk along the planting rows, observe the passage of game, the importance of colonizing flora to naturally protect the plants and, above all, to promote the establishment of a welcoming environment for wildlife: birds, bees, butterflies, ladybugs, etc. Suffice it to say: it’s teeming with life here, and we feel so small!
In 2021, the recovery rate was excellent. In 2022, it still is! The SRFB also remains very aware of the plot’s development due to its scale and the objective being pursued.
We conclude the visit. Our dear foresters thank us, as well as you, dear contributors, for supporting their project. But we also say THANK YOU to Hector and Céline for opening the plot’s doors to us, for taking the time to share their passion and knowledge! We leave feeling enriched and serene! The plantation is in very good hands.
