Discover the “…..”: A Haven for Biodiversity

WHO AM I?

I am feminine and my name consists of 4 letters.
I belong to the blue network, an essential ecological network for the circulation of water and aquatic species.
✨ My shape is random: I can be square, rectangular, or curved, but I prefer natural contours, which are more conducive to biodiversity.
I am found in various landscapes, provided I am dug. If the soil is wet, I remain natural; otherwise, a liner helps me retain water.
I am more effective when I have neighbors nearby or when the surrounding environment already hosts wild species.
I offer refuge and resources to varied biodiversity: Aquatic (amphibians, aquatic insects, and microorganisms). Flying: (birds, dragonflies, bats). Crawling (reptiles and small mammals).
I provide water for drinking, swimming, laying eggs, or hunting.
I am surrounded by aquatic plants that help me stay oxygenated.
My secret? I have three depth levels (approximately 30 cm, 50 cm, and 80 cm or more) to accommodate a maximum number of species.
⚠️ Warning: although fish are often welcome, they disrupt my natural balance by eating my larvae and plants.

So… Who am I?

THE POND!

The existence of pond networks is crucial for the maintenance of certain species, some of which are listed on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

In Wallonia, 17% of amphibian species and 26% of dragonfly species are endangered.

The pond constitutes a complex ecosystem where interactions between species are numerous! It is a place for gathering and reproduction for fauna and flora specific to wetlands.

With a pond, one must look at what is around it, in its different depths, above, and further away! It is an entire ecosystem in itself that will host a particular fauna. Amphibians, dragonflies, aquatic insects.

And at PlantC? We have ponds

PlantC is not just about planting trees!
We have already created several ponds; here are some examples:

Since 2025, we also support farmers in their wetland creation projects.
Currently, we are collaborating with the Parc Naturel des Sources on a wetland project.
