A Frugivorous Hedge for the Birds of Froidchapelle

The context

Guy is a committed actor in the agricultural life of his region. A veterinarian and owner of agricultural land in Froidchapelle, he manages his plots using reasoned conventional agriculture.

His farm combines several activities: cattle breeding, cereal cultivation, and hay meadows.

Looking to the future, Guy wishes to preserve a rich and vibrant environment for future generations. He particularly wants his grandchildren to still enjoy the song of birds and land that welcomes biodiversity.

For him, sustainable agriculture requires harmonious coexistence between production and nature. Hedges therefore play an essential role. They provide shelter and resources to many local species. They also help preserve biodiversity within agricultural areas.

The project

In this commitment to continue the actions already undertaken, Guy once again calls on PlantC for a hedge planting project.

A first project had already been completed in 2015. It included 620 plants, distributed across single- or double-row hedges.

This time, the project includes nearly 740 meters of hedges, divided into 8 sections. Among them, a three-row hedge with tall standard trees will occupy a prominent place.

Installed in a hay meadow, this hedge will provide shelter for farmland wildlife. Another hedgerow will also reinforce the edge of the plot.

 

Hedges designed for biodiversity

The hedges will be composed exclusively of native species. Their selection serves a simple objective: to provide birds with food resources for as long as possible throughout the year.

The different species will produce their berries at varied times. Thus, the birds will be able to find food throughout the seasons.

The flowers will also benefit pollinators. Indeed, the selected species will provide floral resources at different times of the year.

With this project, hedges thus become true reservoirs of biodiversity at the heart of agricultural land.
