François Misse is a farmer and veterinarian in Tohogne, a district of the city of Durbuy.

His dream?

To manage his Belgian Blue and Wagyu cattle farm with his family on the Ardennes border while also being a bovine veterinarian. It was with the desire to promote the well-being of his animals that François approached PlantC to plant hedges. It is thanks to our collaboration with Trafic that this project came to fruition!

After touring the plots, we identified several locations for planting hedges. As the farm is surrounded by forests, the hedges will largely contribute to the ecological network of the area, will help to stabilize the soil and enhance runoff management while protecting his livestock from the sun and gusts of wind.

The planting project includes four hedge sections:

  • An 80-meter single-row hedge
  • An 85-meter double-row hedge
  • A 328-meter double-row hedge
  • A 170-meter double-row hedge

These nectar-rich and nourishing hedges will also serve as a habitat for local wildlife, consisting of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and small mammals.

The Hedge: An Ecological Corridor Through Tohogne

Meeting many criteria eligible for its Takecare sustainability program, the company Trafic chose to co-finance the 663 meters of hedge.

In February 2025, the linear planting was carried out after periods of rain and frost, and following the advice of the PlantC team, the planter cleared the ground to facilitate the implementation of the hedge.

The hedge is composed of guelder roses, hawthorns, and wayfaring trees*, part of a mix of more than 10 native species of trees and shrubs.

Once the hedge was planted, we visited François to personally hand him the famous explanatory sign explaining to passersby the benefit of such a hedge around the farmer’s plots.

We were also able to appreciate the planter’s perfectly executed work.

Do you want to know the best part? We’re back for more , no less than a kilometer of double-row hedge with standard trees that we will plant next year!

When we addressed the chapter “Biodiversity” as part of our Take Care program, the team’s desire to take concrete local action quickly became apparent.
We then found in PlantC an attentive and committed partner, capable of offering us a solution that is both professional and has a strong impact on biodiversity.

Thanks to the network of farmers and market gardeners spread throughout Belgium, we will be able to develop a project near each of our stores by 2030.

Our decision to collaborate with Plant C is also based on the rigorous approach to selecting its partners: plantations are chosen according to the local biotope, implemented with care, and are subject to regular monitoring.

We are delighted with this collaboration, enriched throughout the year by clear information and constant visibility on current and upcoming projects.
