This is a reforestation project in Chiny-Thirifays where PlantC supported 1,600 trees.
The Chiny (Thirifays) Project in Detail

Four species are present:
- 500 Silver Birches (Betula pendula)
- 500 Wild Cherries (Prunus avium)
- 125 Field Maples (Acer campestre)
- 475 Sycamore Maples (Acer pseudoplatanus)
This combination of deciduous species replaces a spruce monoculture on a fallow area at the back of the forest.
- Planting period: Winter 2021-2022.
- The survival rate confirmed in autumn 2022.
- 95.15 tonnes of CO2 sequestered over 30 years.
Project carried out in partnership with the Royal Forestry Society of Belgium.

Visit to the Thirifays Plot in 2023
Visit on May 26, 2023! We learned through discussions with the forester that previously, this plot, enclosed within agricultural land, lay fallow for many years and gradually became a dumping ground. It underwent a cleanup campaign before being replanted. The owner took care to leave beautiful hedges along the site’s edge that established themselves naturally, ensuring a nice transition between the future forest plot and the neighboring pastures. These are true nursery areas, refuge, and nesting sites for birds and small wildlife.

The survival rate is very good and the plants are well protected. This did not prevent a deer from feeding on some fresh shoots a few days after our visit! Not enough to threaten the establishment of the stand a priori: to be continued.
