This is a reforestation project where 2 species were planted on 1.34 hectares. A combination of a productive species and a species highly beneficial for biodiversity. The light canopy of the larch allows for good coexistence between the two species.

The Natoye Planting

The plot borders agricultural land on three sides.

  • Hybrid Larch (Larix x eurolepis) – 890 individuals.
  • Sessile Oak (Quercus petraea) – 1110 individuals.
  • Planting period: February 2021.
  • The survival rate was checked in autumn 2021.
  • 266 tonnes of CO2 sequestered over 30 years.

In total, 2,000 trees were planted with the support of PlantC.

This project is carried out in partnership with the Royal Belgian Forestry Society.

Visit to the plot in 2022

On July 27, 2022, we walked the plot. It is clear that the planting is still thriving. The forest manager and the PlantC team visit the entire plot, and we can observe the coexistence of local flora and the growing trees. Indeed, foresters must manage drought periods, and leaving ground cover helps limit soil water evaporation while also limiting excessive competition with the trees.
