What is happening in Assesse?
This is a reforestation project where PlantC is supporting the planting of 4,000 trees across 1.6 hectares. Three species make up the reforestation in Assesse:
- European Larch: 600 individuals
- Red Oak: 3,100 individuals
- Chestnut: 300 individuals
Contribution per increment of €25 incl. VAT is equivalent to 579 kg of CO₂ or 7 trees planted.
This combination consists of deciduous and coniferous species and is part of a reforestation after bark beetles.
This is a plot of abies affected by bark beetles.
The planting is structured as follows: 3 strips of oaks and 1 mixed strip of 2 larches / 1 chestnut.
The plot is bordered by a communal path.

Using a diversity of species is beneficial for avifauna (flowers, fruits, and acorns provide food sources for birds, insects, and small mammals, for example). When leaves fall, humus is generated and the root systems complement each other. This will impact the recycling of deep elements, the biological activity of the soil, the fixation and structuring of the soil.
- Planting period: March 2025.
- Survival rate: verification in progress.
- 336.00 tons of CO2 sequestered over 30 years.
Project carried out in partnership with the Royal Forestry Society of Belgium.
