Reforestation in Roly
In Roly, 5 tree species have been planted across 3 hectares. These species will replace a spruce monoculture destroyed by the bark beetle and diversify the oak forest. In total, 6,000 trees have been planted with the support of PlantC.
The Project Implemented
It is therefore a diversification project: These species will replace a spruce monoculture destroyed by the bark beetle. This will guarantee and improve the services provided locally by the forest (biodiversity, water and soil quality).
- Planting Period: December 2020
- The survival rate was verified in summer 2021.
- The forest management of this plot is PEFC certified.
- 699.9 tons of CO2 sequestered over 30 years.
This project is carried out in partnership with the Royal Belgian Forestry Society.

Project Status in 2022
We conducted a visit to the Roly plots on October 5, 2022.
It was an opportunity to observe that the plantations are thriving with survival rates that are maintained and confirmed.
The cool to humid sites of this wooded area are less susceptible to the heatwaves we experienced this summer 2022. This is evidenced by the impressive annual growth of the American red oaks and chestnut trees, which are emerging well above their protective sleeves. Adorned in its winter colors, the American red oak has never lived up to its name so well.
Each visit to this site reveals its faunal richness. The very secluded nature of this domain is certainly a contributing factor.
