At PlantC, we love to make nature accessible, vibrant, and sometimes even a little fun. This time, it was Aricia, our biologist, who took on the challenge: how to talk about the bud without being too conceptual? The result: a mix of poetry, science, and good vibes.
As autumn draws to a close, I like to imagine the bud as alive, truly present. Sometimes appearing gruff… or hidden… yet ready to bloom…
For this good vibe, I share with you my “Ode to the Bud”.
Aricia, what’s going on in your head?
You, bud, you might go unnoticed.
You, this unknown entity, sometimes tiny, sometimes quite visible.
Yet you are indeed an organ, so complex and so fascinating.
Sometimes protected by scales or down.
You can be floral, foliar…
At the very top, apical,
or close to companions, as an axillary reinforcement.
Sometimes, I worry about seeing you open too early…
I don’t want you to burn your wings.
But often, if I start to see you,
It means you’ve detected signals that we don’t perceive.
I like to think you’ve prepared for the growing season.
You formed discreetly, but in winter, you sleep; your division is inhibited, prevented.
But when warmth and light return.
You will know, you will know that the time has come to express yourself.
Now, look, look closely…
A Brussels sprout is a bud… the eyes of a potato… these are buds.
And you?
Do you know any other surprising buds?
Tell us, we love to learn new plant curiosities!
