Reforestation in Ciney

For this reforestation, 9 deciduous and coniferous species were planted in spring 2020 across 4 hectares:

The project in detail

  • sessile oak,
  • small-leaved lime,
  • sycamore maple,
  • hornbeam,
  • Douglas fir,
  • Corsican pine,
  • Bornmüller’s fir,
  • Atlas cedar and
  • larch.

This is therefore a diversification project: These species will replace a spruce monoculture destroyed by the bark beetle. This will ensure and improve the services provided locally by the forest (biodiversity, water and soil quality).

To top it all off, the forest management implemented on this plot is “PEFC” certified, which guarantees a high level of sustainability.

In total, 6,600 trees were planted. PlantC contributed 2,000 trees to this reforestation, representing 235 tons of CO2.

The survival rate was verified in autumn 2020.
